The applications of ionizing and non-
ionizing radiation in different fields are beneficial,
and in some cases unique. However, carelessness in applying
safety rules can be disastrous for workers, the public, the environment, and even future generations.
The application of radioactive materials and radiogenic devices in different fields is justifiable, only if an authorized and scientifically capable organization regulates the procedures, establishes rules, regulations and instructions, and devises radiation protection standards for supervision and control at all levels of distribution, application, and waste management.
The general policies of the National Radiation Protection Department are: Implementing radiation protection regulations, approved by the Parliament, in all centers dealing with radiation; supervision, control and quality assurance of the proper use of radiation and finally , prevention of hazardous effects on the environment and human health. In this regard, it has always been
the goal of the researchers and experts at the Radiation Protection Department, to safeguard workers, the public, the environment and future generations against the harmful effects of radiation. Also the experts at this Dept.
