IRWA is an exclusive governmental administrator of long term management of nationwide radioactive wastes in Iran. This company (IRWA) was created in 2007 within the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and established to conduct radioactive waste management activities from the cradle to the grave in a high level of safety. Our approach is to protect people, the environment and future generations against the hazardous and harmful effects of exposure to radiation originated from radioactive wastes under the national legal framework.

These wastes mainly arise from fuel cycle facilities, nuclear power plants, research reactors, medical centers and other industries. Activities such as waste collection, characterization, treatment, conditioning, transportation and storage of wastes are also carried out by IRWA.
