Dr. Salehi, describes advanced nuclear industry achievements
Following the ceremonies of gas feeding the IR6 advanced intermediate centrifuge 30 chain machinery and the follow up enrichment processing, Dr. Salehi in a press conference further elaborated on the technical aspects of Iran's recent progress in nuclear field as the following:
Based on the wise guidance of the Supreme Leader's advice on maintaining the total nuclear rights of Iran particularly in the peaceful technical dimensions, today we witness the commencing operation of IR6 advanced centrifuges as an ample example of preserving such allocated rights.
The IR6 first sample model centrifuge advanced machinery was primarily publicly unveiled on Apr/10/2010, around 9 years ago.
At this time, 4 years has elapsed since the JCPOA convening and 5 years of the initial unveiling, which goes back before the deal agreement.
IR6 was one of the issues agreed upon during the JCPOA talks. According to the time limitations the negotiating side set, was to move to a 20 chain intermediate within a specified period of time of which we had possessed previously a 10 chain system already.
After a 4 year elapse of JCPOA, with a total duration of 10 years, we began the 20 chain system since Apr/9 of the current Iranian year. So we expedited the 20 chain system timing based on the high orders received. The 30 chain system was supposed to start 4 years later based on the understanding reached, within the time duration of the deal, which we expedited the process as seen today.
Our progress experience in centrifuge machine industry design was highly experimental. In designing the IR8, we still did not possess proper software possibilities. At present, for instance, for dynamic gas software, 200 thousand lines have been written or for rotor dynamic software around 90 thousand lines, which is a tremendous asset achievement. For each centrifuge development around 2500 scientific documents are produced.
The claims made by some media on which our nuclear industry has been weakened or marginalized is baseless. This industry has been able to increase capacity in 2 months by adding 2660 SWU capacity with advanced centrifuges which is outstanding.
The media and press visit to our R&D facilities demonstrate the 15 new generation machine types produced.
Among such advanced devices, some of which were made in the last two months, are IR9 machine with 50 (SWU) capacity and IR modular, IR7, IRs, IR5, IR6+…. ETC, are noticeable.
Before convening JCPOA we had 11/000 (SWU) and after (step 3), the capacity has reached 8600 SWU which is an incredible achievement.
The variety of machine types before was 5 new generation kinds, and after (step 3) this has added up to 15 types which show Iran's nuclear industry has moved forward strongly.
The purpose of uranium enrichment is to supply fuel for the power plants. With the advances made, last year we were able to produce 30 tons of uranium which, hopefully will reach 50 tons, within a year or two. Based on the order issued by the Supreme Leader, our ceiling needs are to provide 190/000 (SWU) to answer the annual demand of a 1000 MW plant such as the one in Bushehr. For two power plant, the number of needed (SWU) will naturally increase. To meet the 190/000 (SWU) ceiling in future, more uranium is needed, of which, after JCPOA convening, 450 tons have been added, since the 4 years past.
We have always remained responsible to our commitments vis-à-vis IAEA. The most outstanding of such commitments are Safeguard Agreement, Additional Protocol and some limited inspections by the agency in accordance with the (JCPOA). Some of the JCPOA issues have been restricted, since there was no need for their implementation, but the additional protocol and safeguard agreement remain intact, and, as before, we forward completed declarations which can be verified.
The number of (SWU) needed for the centrifuges machines in the coming years, are determined according to our requirements and are not restricted.
All such performance is due to the relentless efforts spent by our scientists and personnel in various sections of the nuclear industry such as, power plants, research reactors, heavy water, complete fuel cycle, agriculture, and health sectors.
