The Engineering and Operation Department is responsible to operate all facilities of Iran Radioactive Waste Management Company. The company facilities include ANARAK Radioactive Waste Disposal Complex, Tehran Installations and Karaj Storage. This department  implements storage and final disposal of radioactive wastes and also provides relevant consulting and engineering services about management of the radioactive wastes.

The responsibilities of Engineering and Operation Department are defined as below:

1. Collection, pre-treatment, treatment and storage of radioactive wastes.
2. Collection and management of all spent radioactive sources in different industries and medical activities within the country.
3. Transporting of sources and radioactive wastes
4. Technical consulting and engineering services in the field of  radioactive waste treatment.
5. Disposal of radioactive wastes in ANARAK Radioactive Waste Disposal complex.
6. Designing and constructing of treatment systems for management of the radioactive liquid and solid wastes.
7. Characterizing of the radioactive wastes by sampling, preparation  and analysis in different media such as; waste, water, soil, plant, resin, filter and etc.
8. Performing compliance verification of the waste packages with acceptance criteria of ANARAK Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility
9. Research and development projects in treatment and waste conditioning field.
10. Decontamination of the radioactively contaminated instruments and equipment.
