Development of industries such as nuclear industry, oil and gas industry, mining and chemical fertilizer industry has led to a remarkable increase of radioactive materials discharge to the environment.

During the different phases of production and operation, and depending on the selected processes, radioactive materials are produced and concentrated in different environmental bodies which could endanger the environment and human health.

In recent years and along with the growth of nuclear industry, environmental consequences and long term intensive impacts of producing wastes is a matter which has to be seriously taken into consideration and needs to be dealt with in a safe and proper manner.

In a large number of mines, mining and mineral processing activities in order to extracting minerals from ore body are one of the main origins and resources of producing, concentrating and releasing naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) to the environment.

In oil industry, the existing radium in sludge and scale arising from transportation pipelines and crude oil storage tanks has to be considered as a threat (NORM) for personnel and the environment.
To protect human health and the environment, environmental management activities have to be planned and appropriately carried out in mentioned industries. The management of radioactive materials and wastes generated by-products of as those activities require specialty and technical and operational familiarity in the field of radioactive materials.

Taking into account the wide range of activities in which Iran Radioactive Waste Management Company (IRWA) is knowledgeable, practiced and appropriately equipped and in line with the outlook and objective of the company, requesting centers and industries will be provided with environmental services under the supervision and direction of IRWA, department of safety and radiation protection.
