Design and construction of gamma detectors of radioactive materials in moving vehicles
The goal of this project at the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute is to provide the possibility of detecting radioactive material in moving vehicles
The goal of this project at the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute is to provide the possibility of detecting radioactive material in moving vehicles. The radioactive material might be left unintentionally in the vehicles which are used for transport in nuclear industries or might be placed for illegal transportation deliberately. To prevent the uncontrolled leave of radioactive material from specific locations, it is necessary to build a device to detect radioactive material present in vehicles. The device which is made in this project detects the gamma ray emitted from radioactive material that could penetrate to the outside zone of the moving vehicle and by giving suitable alarms, warns the personnel of the existence of the radioactive material in a moving vehicle. By using this device, it is possible to detect the existence or absence of radioactive material in a moving vehicle. The ability of the device in detecting the radioactive material depends on the source activity and speed of the vehicle.
